Short answer
A receptor is a protein that receives a signal; an agonist is a molecule that binds to it and switches it on, mimicking the natural signal. An antagonist binds and blocks instead. 'GLP-1 receptor agonist' means the molecule activates the same pathway the body's own GLP-1 would, even if its structure differs.
