What is a peptide's 'half-life' and what does it tell you?

Short answer

Half-life is the time it takes for the blood concentration to fall by half. It is a descriptive measure of how the body clears a molecule, and it varies enormously between peptides — from minutes to days. It is useful for reading research, not a rule that by itself determines how anything should be used.

  • Chemical modifications such as albumin binding greatly extend how long some peptides persist.
